Tree Planting...

A very big
THANK YOU
to everyone who came along
to help plant the new saplings
which were given to us by
The Woodland Trust.

Despite the grey weather,
and the fact it was Easter weekend,
it was a great turn-out.
So good to see so many
local people getting involved.

Another big THANK YOU
to the anonymous donor
who paid for the tree protectors
and canes.

This little copse is adjacent
to Ghost Wood and will
enhance the local area
by adding some colour,
and it will encourage
birds and wildlife.

It will also provide
a shady area for families
to enjoy picnics,
while still allowing
plenty of green space
for children to run around on.

The project has the backing of
Colchester Borough Council
and local Counsellors.

Spring Has Sprung...

... on Greenstead Slopes!

A very big
THANK YOU
to everyone who helped
to plant the spring bulbs.

As you can see
the crocuses are fabulous!

(As are these hyacinths).

Dangerous Behaviour...

It's been noted that in recent weeks
someone has created a bike racing track
through Ghost Wood.

Moss has been cleared on the ground,
and obstacles positioned for 'jumps'.

There are also visible bike tracks
in the mud.

This is a highly dangerous activity
in an area enjoyed by
dog walkers and families.

Colchester Borough Council are aware
and will be making the area safe.

Notices will be put up
and leaflets distributed locally.

You are urged to phone the police
if you see any bikes on the slopes
or in the woods.

We have to put a stop to this
before someone gets hurt!

Beautiful Bulbs...

It seems that the crocus bulbs,
which we planted recently,
are now beginning to flower.

What a lovely sight.

It's good to know
that they'll flower
year after year.

We hope that you all
enjoy them
as much as we do.

We can't wait for the daffodils to all come out!

Colchester.Website...

There's a brand new marketing website called Colchester.Website
with an aim to help people share their own content.
Colchester.Website's primary mission
is to promote engagement through content
in order to help local people to connect with each other.
Here's a link to their site:

They've very kindly set up an account for
Keep the Green Clean
and you can find our first post here:

Watch out for future KTGC posts on their site!

Colchester 101...

"Colchester 101 is a blog for the town of Colchester full of content that you won’t find anywhere else. We write about the music and arts scenes, and other subjects with a local flavour or that we believe are of interest to our readers."

Keep The Green Clean would like to thank Simon Crow and Colchester 101 for publishing this piece about the work that we do:

Snowdrops...

We appear to have
a few pretty little snowdrops
dotted around the slopes.

In Ghost Woods
the fabulous silver birches
look rather splendid
against the blue sky.

The trees are full
of chirping birds.

Here's a short video clip.

Exciting News!

In keeping with the KTGC theme
of providing a legacy for
future generations,
we recently applied to
The Woodland Trust
for some free trees.

We are pleased to announce
we have been granted
a copse pack!

We will soon receive
the following saplings:
10 Silver Birch
10 Wild Cherry
10 Rowan

These new trees
will fit in well
with our current species
and will encourage
birds and other wildlife.

We are due to meet
with Colchester Borough Council
to discuss the exact positioning
which will probably be
adjacent to ghost wood.

As soon as we have
further information
we will let you know...
